Arrow Lower Academy (K-6th grade) classes meet for approximately 25 weeks on Wednesdays. Arrow Upper Academy (UA) (7th-12th grade) classes meet for approximately 30 weeks on Wednesdays, with some 7th-12th grade classes that meet on Fridays. 6th grade has a couple of UA class options on Wednesdays to enable them to experience both the LA and UA format. Upper Academy courses continue Arrow’s commitment to a Christian worldview and are designed to both strengthen study skills and achieve a high academic standard. High school courses are graded, as are most junior high offerings. Depending on the course, there may be prerequisites to maintain academic standards and classroom success, and both math and modern foreign language courses meet two days a week on Wednesday/Friday.
You may pick and choose which classes work best for your schedule and your child's academic endeavors. Classes are offered á la carte to best suit the needs of your family.
We offer a supervised Study Hall for students 4th grade and up. Students in Study Hall are expected to bring independent reading or schoolwork to allow for a thoughtful, creative and/or productive hour. Look for the Study Hall option during registration.
Arrow Lower Academy (1st-6th grade) will provide a homework component to most core-subject courses, such as History, Foreign Language or Science. However, LA courses are not graded. Homework is generally geared around pre-reading material and/or completing some type of assignment. Students thrive in the classroom when they are prepared to contribute and engage the material in a meaningful way. Students will likely need a parent to work with them during the week to be prepared for class. Each Lower Academy course does not generally assign more than 60-75 minutes of homework per week. Please consult course descriptions for more information.
Arrow Upper Academy (7th-12th grade) courses are designed as an academic step up for junior high and high school level courses. The majority of UA courses are graded. Each course description will have an estimated homework load, which assumes the student is capable of working on grade level. Students are required to complete the homework and participate in class. Please consult the course descriptions and prayerfully consider the requirements of each class before enrolling.
While no tests or grades are given in Lower Academy courses, some core-subject courses provide optional take-home tests for parents to administer, if they choose.
Upper Academy courses will provide tests and grades for the majority of junior high and high school courses.
Arrow does not require preliminary testing for enrollment. We work collaboratively with parents to determine the child's appropriate class level. Please consider carefully the level of class and outside requirements before enrolling.
Arrow Upper Academy will require placement testing for Math and English courses, as well as have prerequisites for some courses on an honor system.
Researchers have found that gains in achievement generally occur when class size is reduced to less than 20 students. To maximize effectiveness as well as encourage classroom discussion and hands-on activities, typical class size at Arrow varies from 10-16 students. Some upper-level Science classes can accommodate 18-20 students with the presence of teacher aides.
We promote an opportunity to participate in standardized testing each year in May.
